1. Father of Spencer/Spruce Phillips; named Titus as paternal grandfather of John R. Phillips on fetched 1889 Morgan County biographical sketch, with Spencer identified as his son (born 8 May 1800 among the younger children).

   Our subject comes of good New Jersey stock, his grandfather, Titus, and his father, Spencer phillips, having been born and bred in that State. It is thought that all of the grandfather's children were born in that State, and in 1816 he moved from there to Hamilton County, Ohio, with his family… He remained there until 1831… and in the spring of 1832 he located with his family on the farm now owned by our subject… His grandmother Phillips died a few years later, and the grandfather died, perhaps fifteen years after their settlement here. The father of our subject was among the younger ones of his parents' family, and was born May 8, 1800…
